The Second Largest Search Engine Everyone Forgets
When you think of search engines, you typically think of Google, Yahoo, Bing, different directories, etc, but there is a massive search engine that everyone seems to forget. The reason is that it isn’t called a search engine and most people don’t refer to it that way. The search engine I am talking about is YouTube.
I know what you’re thinking
That’s just a place where you go and watch dumb videos that people make. Not so fast! Think of you use Youtube, and how it ties into the process when you’re searching for something. There’s a lot more there than meets the eye when it comes to Youtube.
When you want to learn how to do something, or you want to see someone do something, so you can follow it step by step, I’m sure you look for it on Youtube. There are tens of thousands of how-to videos on there.
When you look up how to do something on Google, where does it send you? I’m willing to bet that you’ll end up with a list of YouTube videos in the top search results. It takes several factors into account when deciding which videos rank 1st, but you can bet that they have gotten tons of traffic from search results by Google.
Google Owns YouTube
How do I know this? Because you can sign into your Youtube account with your Gmail credentials. Plus, it’s been in the news and it’s considered old news. It’s just important to understand how they are tied together.
What This Means For You
This means that you should think of Youtube as another way to market and promote your business. It can be a great way to drive traffic and build a following. I have a lot of people that follow me on Youtube for my instructional design videos that aren’t necessarily following me anywhere else. It’s another way you can funnel people and paying customers to your website. That’s why you see plumbers and other tradesmen with how-to videos on Youtube. For SEO Knoxville has several videos featuring local tradesmen and business owners, providing tips and tricks to save money. They show you how to do a little something yourself, but for the big jobs you just call them and they cash the checks.
So Go Blow Up Youtube With Videos, Right?
Wrong. There are a few things that you should think about before throwing videos on Youtube to promote your business. There are a lot of little settings and tweaks, as well as things you can do to help your videos be more successful. Let’s take a look at a few quick things that will help you be more successful:
Create a Detailed Description
The more detailed the description of the video, the more relevant it will look to Youtube and Google. Just like keywords and content for a website, the content that you add along with your video can help it to rank.
A lot of marketers are using this, because it works. Some people are uploading text transcripts of each episode with their Youtube episodes. This adds more relevant content to the video, making it stand out from others who don’t. I’m willing to guess that the dialog of each episode is packed with keywords, which can never hurt, unless you repeat the same thing over and over again.
There has to be an easy way to get people from your Youtube video to your website. People usually do this in one of two different ways. The first is to add the link to your website in the video description. This makes it easy for them to go straight to your website for more info after they’ve watched and enjoyed your videos.
The second is to create a popup over the video in Youtube. It takes a little more work, since you have to verify your site with Youtube before activating this feature, but it is highly effective. Sometime near the end of the video, you can add a popup comment box, with a small message that referrs them to your website. This can be a landing page, a special offer page, and email opt-in page, or a link to your blog so they can read more content.
Youtube is a sleeping giant in terms of being the 2nd largest search source in the world. It houses millions of videos, and it’s constantly being searched for information. Harnessing the power of Youtube search results can drive tons of traffic for your business and can be a significant advertising venue. Is your business on Youtube? It can definitely help!
